Perioperative Nutrition

Abstract

Malnutrition is a common yet underrecognized perioperative risk factor and is frequently misdiagnosed using nonspecific clinical indicators such as serum albumin and body mass index alone. This session will correct common misconceptions about malnutrition and review its independent associations with surgical complications, recovery, and outcomes. Attendees will be introduced to brief, validated screening tools that can be readily integrated into preoperative assessment to improve risk stratification and support timely nutrition optimization to improve perioperative outcomes.
